  1. Hi there: I was in the market for some serious training and came across Helix Tactical...I also came across John Nightraven's information through some Army buddies of mine and found out that he is definitely the source for some serious training. He know's his %$@*! as a seasoned operator. As for Mr. Harter and Mr. Nottingham having any experience as an SF Operator; this is zero to none. Looks like these two individuals are riding on the back of SFC Nightraven to carry this Helix Tactical through; to say the least. Back in Ft.Carson, Ft. Benning, and Ft. Lewis SFC Nightraven has competed in several tactical pistol, tactical carbine and sharp shooter competitions and has devasted many SF Operators especially with the aerial platform shooting. I am actually surpirsed that SFC Nightraven is part of Helix Tactical. I would advise to NOT screw with him as he is very deadly with his hands and mind, a real strategist. Be Forewarned.........

  2. Hi there:

I really enjoyed reading your article.
Having the will to act and perform should fit together hand in hand. Nonetheless, the thumb in the eye is a classical tactic that is used and taught time and time again in our teachings.

Unfortunately, we as commoners can only avoid the dangers when present. Due to the conflict of unnecessary harm to ourselves when the ever present danger arises is what sets tactics apart from practiced techniques based on our historical and proven battle strategies.

On the other hand, how does an elderly woman know how her elongated thumb or finger will strike the eye of the attacker? How does she know how much pressure to utilize and enforce through her technique without proper training and knowledge.

Tactics can be employed on the battlefield and in garrison. Although, technique and continuous study of when, why, and how are of the traits a student picks up during ongoing training and through what the art teaches.

If the art and technique has been proven in battle time and time again surviving over let's say a thousand years then this is the one that I would most likely employ. However, you have separated and placed the professional agent, operator, military, and law enforcement officer into categories according to their profession and to the skills that that can only employ during an attack.

This is not true when it comes to the elderly lady. By the art that she learns and routinely practices, she can become more than just a stereotyped weak target, an old, decrepit, easy prey to the OPFOR (Opposition Force).
Our art teaches many aspects in lieu of this, as for watching countless scenarios and real life footage; this should not be taken lightly, but tutelage from master to disciple.

After reading the other insights that you share from the other posts and blogs you seem to have a good grasp on the concept of training but not in the security sense. My team of operators of an Alpha Detachment consider the “Mind Set” approach as "a set of assumptions held by one or more people or groups of people which is so established that it creates a powerful incentive within these people or groups to continue to adopt or accept prior behaviors, choices, or tools. This phenomenon has a cognitive bias and is also sometimes described as mental inertia, group think or a paradigm in our specialized units. AS you mention “the mind set” It is often difficult to counteract its effects upon the analysis and decision making processes."

So when you make decisions the ultimate controlling force is your personal mindset. But that's not all. You see as your mindset develops, so too does the 'technique and skill', which according to the U.S. Army SOG’s and our Soke, Masaaki Hatsumi, "is something that is not explained by the laws of nature."

On a side note, I am surprised to see that Helix Tactical is offering classes that are 100% money back guarantee. Although, no one is offering this at this time because it never seems to work. From a marketing standpoint it sounds much more of a ploy to get people in much like a paper farm and to process candidates to slap a Helix label on them.

  3. The Helix Tactical advantage is not clear…Although the Tactical Carbine and Handgun are classes that my team would enjoy. I also noticed that one of our high Bujinkan instructors, an SOG operator is listed as a Helix Tactical instructor. Is this true? If so, then this would give my School and Team a valid reason to train with Helix.

Shidoshi Nightraven has a vast knowledge of weapons and certifications in Shikengata. He has provided many of our schools with professional seminars and has hosted them worldwide. Having him on the Helix team is an added bonus and will certainly be advantageous in utilizing his experience and training.

Once again, I enjoyed your enlightened and in depth knowledge of effective training. I always encourage the commoner to continuously train and take advantage of the ongoing instruction that a well experienced operator can share.

    Sincerely,
